Today’s Music 19/6/16

As well as teaching, I also sing semi-professionally as a lay clerk in Newcastle Cathedral. Today was the chamber choir’s turn: normally this would mean a day off, but not today.

St Nicholas Cathedral is England’s most northern cathedral. There has been a church on the site for over 900 years. I’ve been singing there since September (so, hardly a notch in it’s history of almost a millennium).

We don’t normally have the massive papier mache fruits hanging around the altar.

This mornings music at Eucharist was:
Service in F Sumsion
I give you a new commandment Nardone
The Sumsion is a nice little sing, some interesting little corners in the Gloria. Standard parish choir rep really.
The Nardone… was a poor man’s Rutter. Sentimental mush of the highest order.
